Milanese, If You Please

The unheralded football reporter in Monday's 'Racing Post' was damning in his verdict of last Saturday's EFA Cup Final. He described it as not only one of the worst FA Cup Finals ever but also as one of the worst football matches ever. If that was the best Chelsea and Manchester United could produce then what more need be said about the current state of English football ?

Perhaps Liverpool can provide the answer. They have a record second to no British team in European competition and for all swalex's bluster he has claimed but one highly fortuitous European Cup in what has seemed an eternity at the Old Brafford helm.

However I am hoping for an AC Milan victory within ninety minutes in Athens. This would enhance Celtic's showing against the Italians and provide a timely boost ahead of our Cup Final on Saturday. We cannot have enough positive vibrations ahead of this match.

Liverpool's European history demands they not be underestimated. Here's to a Greek classic.

Nay,nay and thrice nay to a victory for the cheats.

It could be argued that as we knocked out MU over 2 legs, and ACM should have been banned from the competition,it's us who should really be in the final

Im with you on this WG due to 2 things a hollow boast that we were put out by the eventual winners and secondly i ahve a couple of pounds on them carrying over on a double from Seville last week. SO thats their chances blown now.

hmm, I wish I could sincerely agree amigo

I'm all for hollow boasts, they make the football world go round. I also don't want to see Liverpool make inroads into real Madrid's record.

Secondly - my pleasure.

Liverpools record in the EC is quite phenomenal.
Madrid of course can be discounted as 5 of their pots were won before the rest of us woke up.
Milan had already won 2 pots in 63 and 69 almost a decade before Liverpools first success in 77.
I hope the Pool win tonight and make it 6 out of 7 winning finals.
YNWA!!!!!

I'm no Liverpool fan but AC should never have been there, corrupt to the core for decades them all, so saying that it will be YNWA I'll be singing, supporting the team that had King Kenny score a EC Cup winning goal at Wembley all those years ago.

The heart wants the Scousers but the head says 2-1/3-2 Milan.

AC winning will have no bearing on what we think of ourselves on Sat'day WG!
We should have taken them when we had the chance mind you.

P.S. Shoot man, I didn't know Randy had died. Some great music links you have m8.

Aha - so benny and sdstim have the heart pendulum swinging towards Merseyside....

Randy C died a heroic death and if you know Spirit's eponymous first album there his fate is predicted, absolutely uncanny......

After their last meeting, well who could call it?

But if Ac play anything like they did against Man of the U then I feel drubbing coming on for 'pool.

Until the eventide amigo/s

As the 40th Lisbon anno approaches it is still incredible we managed to beat Inter that day. Even as a 12 yo I understood just how powerful they were and can remember staring at a picture of their team line up in the Record and thinking we were going to get battered.
Inter as a club have never really recovered from that day.
My big regret though is that we could have won it a few more times particularly in 1969 when Milan put us out fortuitously and of course the Milan final in 1970.
I think after that Ajax were too strong Cruyff being at his peak- and I dont think we would have beaten them in 1972 in Rotterdam but you never know.Same goes for 74 against Munich

Hi WG,

Catching up after a weekend away in sun / on beer......

Loved the Johnny Doyle post and I had a toast with my brother to the men of '79 on the anniversary on Monday there.

Other memory of wee Johhny was knocking the ref out with a shot and getting sent off for it.

Back to tonight....I'm with Liverpool. Milan are closer to the Royalists of Madrid's record than Liverpool btw....not that that bothers me as you know......

Anyway, only one game of real consequence for me this week and it's not tonight, despite my very mild fondness of Liverpool.

Hail Hail

Tully.
